CLINICIANS

Genevieve David

Clinical Social Worker and Psychodynamic Psychotherapist

With over 30 years of experience in private practice in Australia and the United States, Genevieve is a clinical social worker and psychoanalytic psychotherapist dedicated to helping individuals develop a stronger, more authentic sense of self. She completed her Master’s in Social Work at Loyola University in Chicago, and her psychotherapy approach focuses on supporting meaningful personal growth by drawing on Kohut’s self-psychology, intersubjective theory, and psychodynamic theory.

For the past 20 years, Genevieve has also integrated Buddhist philosophy and practice into her work. She believes Western psychology can be limited in its focus on the individual self. A broader perspective - one that embraces cultural, natural, and spiritual interconnectedness - is essential to the therapeutic process.

Beyond Genevieve's clinical work, she is a passionate writer and teacher. Her work has been published on Psychology Today, and she has led workshops on topics, including postnatal depression and managing anxiety through a Buddhist lens. Genevieve was also invited to teach at the Nan Tien Institute on the intersection of Western psychotherapy and Buddhist psychology. Engaging with the community and mentoring young clinicians is a meaningful part of her professional life.

Genevieve is a member of the International Association of Relational Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy (IARPP), the Association of Australian Social Workers (AASW), the American Association of Psychoanalysis in Clinical Social Work (AAPCSW), and is an Honorary Member of the Australian Association of Buddhist Counsellors and Psychotherapists (AABCAP).

Genevieve works with adults struggling with:

  • Major life transitions (young adulthood, motherhood, menopause, aging, immigration, and career changes)

  • Self-image and self-esteem issues

  • Mood and anxiety disorders

  • Existential and spiritual concerns

  • Mindfulness and meditation practices
